Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.– The Association of Independent Poultry Producers (ASOPROIN) called on the Government to avoid confusion when analyzing the problems of the sector and to verify the legitimacy and representativeness of those participating in the dialogue table.

The entity warned that it will not allow sectors it described as "shady" to contaminate the talks initiated with the authorities, especially now that the market is beginning to stabilize.

VVíctor José Rodríguez, president of the entity, expressed concern about what he considers attempts to take advantage of the situation in the sector to obtain private benefits, to the detriment of those who generate jobs and contribute to the supply of food for the Dominican people.

Rodríguez stated that the delegation that recently visited the National Palace under the name of the National Association of Small and Medium Producers (ANAVIP) does not represent ASOPROIN as an organization. He maintained that the discussions in which his organization participates are channeled through official bodies and the associations that have historically been at the forefront of addressing the sector's problems.

In that regard, he asked President Luis Abinader and the relevant authorities to strengthen the verification mechanisms for participants in the dialogue table, given the importance of the decisions related to the production and supply of chicken meat.

The leader warned that engaging in dialogue with actors who do not represent the producers involved could affect the quality of the agreements and generate confusion at a time when the sector is beginning to overcome the difficulties it has faced.

Christmas Stockings

Rodríguez assured that conditions are in place for the Dominican people to have access to abundant, high-quality chicken at affordable prices during the Christmas holidays. He explained that the necessary measures are being taken in agreement with the relevant authorities and representative poultry producers' associations.

RHe revealed that as an organization they share the view recently expressed by the executive director of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor), Eddy Alcántara, that national chicken production will be sufficient to meet demand during the Christmas holidays, as the necessary precautions have been taken for this purpose.

During the last ten months, the price of chicken per pound has ranged between 79 and 84 pesos in markets and supermarkets in different provinces of the country, due to the existing supply in the market; we do not have shortage problems, which in the end is the most important thing, he noted.

“It’s no secret that the poultry sector has faced situations in the past that have impacted production in one way or another. However, most of those problems have been resolved, so we cannot allow private interests to affect the achievements and progress we have made,” Rodríguez stated.
