Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.– The Blue Life Foundation commemorated International Coastal Cleanup Day with a simultaneous event held at three important points on the Dominican coast: Fort San Gil, in Santo Domingo; Boca Chica and Samaná, where more than 450 people mobilized with a common purpose: to contribute to the protection and conservation of the country's coasts.
At Fort San Gil, more than 200 volunteers participated, who managed to collect approximately 9,800 pounds of waste.
The activity brought together citizens and collaborators committed to the care of coastal spaces and the reduction of waste that reaches the sea.
DSimultaneously, in Boca Chica, more than 200 people participated in the cleaning efforts, managing to remove 1,743 pounds of waste.
The event allowed volunteers to be involved in direct actions to preserve one of the most important coastal areas for tourism and the environment in the country.
Meanwhile, in Samaná, around 50 collaborators joined the initiative and collected 1,093 pounds of waste, contributing to a collective action that seeks to raise awareness about the responsibility to protect marine and coastal ecosystems.
In total, the three operations mobilized more than 450 volunteers and collected 12,636 pounds of waste, figures that reflect the scale of citizen commitment and the need to maintain permanent actions to address coastal pollution.
The Blue Life Foundation emphasized that protecting the Dominican coastline cannot be limited to a specific date. The organization conducts clean-up campaigns throughout most of the year, working consistently on one or two beaches simultaneously and promoting the participation of communities, volunteers, and sectors committed to environmental conservation.
These actions are also part of the efforts that contribute to generating information on the waste found on the coasts and to incorporating the Dominican Republic into the global data of Ocean Conservancy, by registering the waste collected during the days.
With this initiative, Fundación Vida Azul reiterated its call to citizens to actively get involved in the protection of beaches and oceans, under the premise that coastal conservation requires commitment throughout the year and not just during an operation.
